Learn about the local tracks

There are many walking and cycling tracks in the Langs Beach area which are signposted on the top trails map. Further information and maps will be added over time.

When enjoying these beautiful tracks do spare a thought for the Wairahi Tracks volunteers who are constantly building and maintaining the tracks as well as maintaining the weed and pest control of the area.

Get involved

We are always looking for new people to help us to:

  • Build access tracks

  • Remove weeds and pests

  • Restore natural habitats

  • Build community Involvement and ownership of this important work

The volunteers are a friendly bunch and welcome new members – just get in touch.  The ‘Friday Trackies’ sessions (2 hours ) end with a glorious bacon and egg pie, and morning tea prepared so generously by Christine Birss.

Our projects

In just a few years volunteers have

  • Formed tracks to access weeds in areas of regenerating native bush.

  • Sprayed and cleared huge tracts of weeds

  • Planted significant numbers of native plants and trees

  • Nurtured the planting by regular watering and weeding

  • Sought to protect the native birds and water species with a regular programme of pest control.

  • created dozens of new friendships and a feeling of community.

Langs Beach, Bream Bay, Northland, New Zealand

Langs Beach is an iconic, sandy, north-facing, pohutukawa-fringed beach in Bream Bay, on the east coast of the Northland peninsula of New Zealand’s North Island.

To our north lies the Pacific Ocean, and to our south lies the Piroa/Brynderwyn range, a recognised high-value conservation area where kiwi have recently been re-introduced.

We are one of many local kaitiaki groups engaged in the recovery of our precious ngahere from invasive weeds and predators.
